Mary Catherine Kain, age 57, a life-long resident of New York Mills, was called home and reunited with her father on November 30, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Hackensack, NJ on July 2, 1964, the eldest child of Frank and Marcia (Wojciechowski) Emmerich. In 1966, the family returned to their hometown of NYM, where she attended St. Mary’s parochial school and NYM High School graduating in 1982. Mary enjoyed growing up in a close-knit community and raising her family here. A devoted Catholic and parishioner of Sacred Heart-St. Mary’s, Mary led her life in the faith of God. On July 6, 1985, Mary was joined in marriage to Edward S. Kain, at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford. Mary’s greatest passion was raising her three children and spending time on family vacations (especially to Disney and Myrtle Beach) and watching her kids play sports and other activities. Devoted to family, Mary had the best joy spending time with her immediate and extended family including many family holidays, gatherings, and weddings. For over 30 years, Mary enjoyed her career as a Claims Specialist with United Healthcare. In addition, Mary worked at Target at the Guest Service Desk where she made many dear friends that she enjoyed spending time with especially late-night visits to Carmella’s. Mary is survived by her husband, Edward; mother and best friend, Marcia; children, Erin (Ben) Deragon, Courtney (Justin) Wheelock and Ryan Kain; granddaughter, Madelynn Wheelock and Baby Wheelock on the way; beloved siblings, brothers, Frank (Lauri) Emmerich, Michael (Lori) Emmerich; sister, Melissa (Ryan) Christians; adored Uncle Watson and Cioci Dawn Wojciechowski; several loved in-laws, special mention to Colleen and Norm Martin, Steve Kain; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mary was predeceased by her father, Frank, dear grandmother, Catherine and God-mother, Mary Krul as well as her in-laws, Marilyn and Terry Kain. Mary’s love for life was exemplified when she met her granddaughter, Maddie Mae. Her love for her grandchild gave her the strength to push through her illness. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 284 Main Street, New York Mills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, New York Mills. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus & St. Casimir Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth’s for taking special care of Mary and being supportive of her and her family. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Mary’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
