Gene Lawrence Utica Gene M. Lawrence, 83, a lifelong Utica resident passed away on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with his loving family at his side. He was born in Utica on May 5, 1927, the son of Stanley and Caroline Zatycka Lawrence and graduated from Proctor High School. Gene proudly served in the US Army with the 456th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. On May 9, 1948 he was married to Eleanor Zielinski in Holy Trinity Church, Utica; a loving union shared for over 62 years. Gene was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was employed as a manager with Sears & Robuck Co. for 40 years until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement, Gene went to work for the Utica School district as a lunch monitor. His survivors include his loving wife Eleanor of Utica; a daughter, Kathy and her husband Mike Juliano of Utica; three sons and their wives, Gene and Mary Lawrence of Utica, Danny and Christine Lawrence of New Hartford and Tony and Sheila Lawrence also of New Hartford; a brother Chester Lawrence of Indiana; 9 grandchildren, Andy, Samantha, Roxanne, Danielle, Michael, Adam, Laura, Tony and Christopher and 6 great-grandchildren, Marlena, Leigha, Olivia, Peyton, Frankie and Abbey. Gene was predeceased by an infant daughter, Andrea Mary and his two brothers, John and Ted Lawrence Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 1156 Lincoln Avenue, Utica, Burial with Military Honors will be take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Smile Train, an organization to provide overseas children with free corrective cleft lip and palate surgery. Gene's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and doctors of the CCU of Faxton-St. Luke's, Healthcare for their excellent care and compassion shown to Gene through out his illness; especially to Lynn W.
