Louise A. (Derski) Franchell, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Presbyterian Home. Born on June 11, 1932, in Medina, NY, Louise is the daughter of Alexander and Helen (Panek) Derzejewski. She was a graduate of Medina High School and the University of Buffalo where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. Early on the family name was changed from Derzejewski to Derski to Derry. On June 6, 1953, Louise married William (Bill) Franchell in Medina, a blessed union of 58 years prior to his death on September 7, 2011. Louise led an amazing life. She loved meeting new people and was always up for an adventure. From San Diego, CA to Reisterstown, MD. Settling in Utica, NY to raise their family. Everyone was always welcome for a meal. Sometimes her cooking was gourmet and sometimes very edgy. She was an artist and loved to paint. She was also an astrologer (she would read palms and do charts), and she taught astrology classes as well. She was a businessperson and an entrepreneur. Her favorite business she owned was Psychic Treasures. She was gutsy and brave. She loved to read, play bridge (all types), and she volunteered to help make her community a better place. She was one of eight children. She had a big, wonderful family that cared deeply about each other. Surviving are her children, Lincoln Franchell and his fiancée, Linda Lantos, Utica, Dorothy Franchell, Buffalo and Lynn (Steve) Boucher, Remsen; grandchildren, William, Amanda, Matthew and Andrew Franchell, Samantha and Sydney Boucher; great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Derry, Judy Derry, and Jean Franchell. Louise is predeceased by her grandson, Lincoln; sister, Ann; brothers and sisters-in-law, Angeline and Robert Ball, Alexander and Gail Derry, Charles Derry, Edward Derry, Richard and Joyce Derry, William and Dorothy Outz, Gerald Franchell, and James Franchell. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will commence immediately following visitation at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Louise’s name may be made to CABVI (www.cabvi.org).
