WHITESBORO - Janina Kaleta-Skora, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the Presbyterian Home for CNY. Janina was born on June 19, 1935, in Poland, the daughter of the late Jan and Ewa Koscielniak Klempka. She was a college graduate in Krakow, Poland. Janina was married there to Czeslaw Kaleta and had three sons. In 1971, she immigrated to the United States and fell in love with this country. After five years of waiting and fighting communist government and bureaucracy, she finally brought her sons and her beloved mother, Ewa Klempka to the US. Her husband had passed away in Poland. Janina remarried, to Roman Skora and they had a daughter. Mr. Skora passed away in 1992. Janina was employed as a licensed real estate agent in Utica for four years, and also as a Polish voice on the Polka Jukebox radio show, heard every Sunday for many years. She was a Hospice and EMS Global volunteer and was once called a “town hero” for her dedication to the sick. She later worked at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital for 18 years, and her patients loved her. The name Janina was never forgotten there. Janina was a member of Holy Trinity Church and Sacred Heart & St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, the Mikolaj Kopernik Association, and also the White Eagle Medical Bridge to Poland. Most important in Janina’s life were her children and family. Many sacrifices and concerns were not overlooked by her family. She earned the respect and trust of many people and her gentle, kind-hearted nature will be long remembered. Among the things Janina loved to do were praying, singing, smiling, and helping people who needed it. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and was well known for her delicious cooking. Rest in Peace Mom and Babcia – We Love You!! Surviving are her beloved sons, Ryszard Kaleta and his wife, Ewa, Leszek Kaleta and his wife, Donna, Jan Kaleta and his wife, Karen; beloved daughter, Romana Skora Davis and her fiancé, Jimmy Papaleo; her beloved grandchildren, Kasia, Mark, Ryszard Jr., Adam and Joe Kaleta, Michelle Sreca and her husband, Matt, Shaun Kaleta, Danielle Sreca and her husband, Mike, Aubree Anna Davis, and John Roman Davis; great-grandchildren, Maximilian, Giavanna, Ella, Caiden, Dylan, Lucas, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, both here and in Poland. She also leaves a special friend, Nelly Bogdan and her husband, Stanley. She was predeceased by her grandson, Andrew, brother, Stanislaw Klempka Zaniewski and his wife, Czeslawa. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart & St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Yorkville. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Janina’s name may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (www.mskcc.org), Feed The Children (www.feedthechildren.org) or Mother Marianne’s West Side Kitchen (www.mmwsk.org/how-to-donate). Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
