Griselda DeOrtiz

UTICA – Griselda DeOrtiz, 69, passed away on December 25, 2020. She was born on September 21, 1951, in the Dominican Republic, the daughter of Juan Antonio Valdez and Rosa E. Coradin. She attended school in Queens and studied at Columbia University. On January 3, 1983, Griselda married Juan R. Ortiz in New York City, a union of nearly 38 years. She was a secretary with American Express for 16 years, Bloomingdales for 10 years, and Johnson Park, as well Utica School District. Surviving besides her husband, Juan are three children, Rebecca M. Bottari, Juan R. (Sorangel) Ortiz, Roberto C. Ortiz; step-children, Maria C. Falcon, Elizabeth Escalante; three brothers, Juan A. Valdez, Julio E. Valdez, Yonis Lora and sister, Juana E. Brea; seven grandchildren, Jessica M., Paola M., Dominque A., Renangel, Renato, Linda Grace and Armand N.; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and sister. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Saturday, January 2, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. In keeping with safety guidelines, only 25 people will be allowed at one time in the funeral home and face coverings are required. The DeOrtiz family extends their gratitude to Dr. Robertson and Dr. SouSou for the care and compassion shown to Griselda.
