Frederick Henry Mursch Utica Frederick H. Mursch, 89, passed away on Friday July 30, 2010 at the Masonic Care Community. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 20, 1920 the son of Jacob and Gertrude Schmidt Mursch and moved to the Utica area as a young boy. Fred (Bud) graduated from Utica Free Academy. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an Aviation Metalsmith 1st class. He was stationed here in the U.S. as well as the South Pacific in New Caledonia. He often spoke of meeting other boys from Utica when he was overseas during the war. After World War II Fred married Beatrice Boorn. They had one daughter, Bonnie. Beatrice died in December 1953. In 1961 Fred married Corinne White at Zion Lutheran Church. They had one daughter, Ann Mursch James and lived in Holland Patent until moving to Clinton in the early 1990s. Corinne died in Indiana in April 1996. Fred was employed as a sheet metal worker with Remington Arms in Ilion, NY. His interests included hiking, fishing, hunting, nature, and the Boy Scouts of America. Fred was a Boy Scout Leader in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a proud member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Oriental-Faxton Lodge No. 0224 in Utica. He retired from Remington Arms in the mid 1980s and went on to continue working as a security guard for the Masonic Care Community at Acacia Village. Fred (also known as "Smiley") especially enjoyed the company of his good friends at Charlies Diner on Seneca Turnpike in Clinton. He was known for his love of Western novels by Louis Lamour and movies featuring John Wayne. His survivors include his two loving daughters, Bonnie and her husband David Walker of New Hartford NY and Ann Mursch James and Michael T.Piombo of Naugatuck, CT, his two grandsons, Sean Michael Walker and Michael Scott Walker; a great grandson, Benjamin Scott Walker and many friends of the Masonic Care Community. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Desmond and Gertrude (Sacher) Ukleja. Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held Friday at 11 am at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 284 Main Street, New Yorks Mills. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place in Crown Hill Cemetery. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory, 2150 Bleecker Street, Utica, NY 13501-1787.
