FELICIA NIZIOLEK New York Mills / Elk Grove, CA Felicia Niziolek, 89, a longtime New York Mills resident passed peacefully on April 10, 2008 after a brief illness in Sacramento, Ca. Born August 31, 1918 in NY Mills to Francis & Jadwiga (Lasek) Burek. At age 2 her family moved back to Poland where she lived until 1936 when she returned to the US to be with her sister Honorata Hajdukiewicz. Felicia married her one true love Joseph Niziolek November 26, 1942 in St. Marys Church in NY Mills. Joseph died in 1955 leaving her with two small daughters. She worked as a domestic aide to support her family. She finally gained employment with NY State and retired from Marcy State Psychiatric Hospital having worked in the food prepration areas. Felicia lived in the beige house on Main St in New York Mills across from the 3rd mill and is remembered for her flowers. The daisies, roses, mums, lilacs, iris, and the large flower & vegetable gardens with all in bright vivid colors. She loved working in the garden which she tilled herself and took pride in the flowers and vegetables giving them to family and friends who stopped by. She also loved to cook Polish foods even making her own kielbasa from scratch for Easter. Church was very important to Felicia and she was a participant of St. Marys Church in NYM. She was always able to find time to cook during the church festivals. Along with her sister she was one of the Pierogi & Babka Ladies at St.Marys. She was a member of the the Sacred Heart-Rosary Society and the Hilltop Seniors. She did all of this during her retirement until she decided she no longer liked the cold winters. Five years ago she visited her daughter in Elk Grove and liked it so much she stayed there even getting her own senior apartment. Felicia leaves behind two daughters and sons-in-law Frances & Ronald Pytko of Syracuse, NY and Linda & Tom White of Elk Grove, CA. and two special nieces & their husbands Hattie & Richard Lemanski and Irene & Ronald Gugnacki and their families. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 10am until 11:30am at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home 284 Main Street New York Mills. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Marys in New York Mills at 12 noon on Saturday. Burial will take place at St. Stanislaus & Casimer Cemetery. I lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or the church.
