Elizabeth A. Gubbins

January 12, 1943 - April 26, 2022

Elizabeth A. Gubbins, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born in Utica, on January 12, 1943, to John and Emily (Trzepacz) Chrabaszcz, and was educated in local schools. On May 22, 1965, she was married to Patrick Gubbins in St. Mary's Church in New York Mills, a union of 56 years. Elizabeth entered the workforce after graduation from Utica Catholic Academy, beginning her secretarial career at ROAMA, and remained there until her children were born. When she returned to the workforce the rest of her working years were spent between Kelly Girls, Huta & Jones CPA, Douglas Mattson Physical Therapy, and DiSpirito, Gilberti & Sitts Physical Therapy, until her retirement. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Elizabeth had many interests in life. First and foremost was her family, often attending sporting events, school activities, and other special occasions for her children and grandchildren. She was an extremely devoted Catholic, a lifelong member of Sacred Heart - St. Mary's Church in New York Mills. She was a member and Past President of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. As a member of the CCM, she chaired the Annual Family Style Ham Dinner for close to 45 years - a dinner that many people, both near and far, looked forward to each Fall. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society. The pinnacle of her Parish service occurred in 2017 when she was honored to have been a recipient of the Immaculata Award for Service at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse. Elizabeth was also a member of the New York Mills Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a talented cook and baker, often sharing her favorite dishes and sweets with family and friends. She looked forward to regular casino visits to play Bingo and the machines, and also enjoyed her Wednesday Night Pitch League. Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Patrick, and her daughters, Dawn and Lisa of Whitesboro, with whom she resided. She also leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Rachel Gubbins, of Westmoreland, and her cherished grandchildren, Gabriella Marchesani (Paul) of Utica, James (Amanda) Marchesani of Westmoreland, and Alina and Emily Gubbins of Westmoreland. She was awaiting the arrival of her 1st great-grandchild later this year. She also leaves special cousins, Janice (Dave) Golden of Clifton Park, Sharon (Walter) Listas of Whitesboro, Barbara (Matt) Kiszelewski of Oriskany, Phil Wilk of Deerfield, Susan (Dave) Brockway of Bellefonte, PA, Chester Wilk of Syracuse, Michael (Kathie) Wilk of Bogart, GA, Paul (Sue) Wilk of Utica, Joe (Joann) Wilk of Oriskany, Ceil Lupinski of New York Mills and Sandy Gubbins of Deerfield, along with many cherished friends and extended family members. Elizabeth's family would like to extend special thanks to the following: Her cherished friends for all of their love and support provided throughout her lifetime. The nurses and aides at both Colonial Park and the 6th Floor at MVHS - St Luke's Campus, for all of their care and compassion during her recent illness. Rev. Arthur Krawczenko for his spiritual guidance and support. Hospice for working so quickly to expedite her final return home. And special thanks to Edwards Ambulance Service for their endless support throughout Elizabeth's lifetime, especially enabling us to bring her home for Easter this year and expediting her final trip home. May God Bless You All. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 284 Main St., New York Mills. Family and friends will gather at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart & St. Mary, Our Lady of Czestochowa Church with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus & Casimir Cemetery, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to either Sacred Heart & St. Mary, Our Lady of Czestochowa Church or Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. View funeral service online at https://youtu.be/WTjZtLpSs3g
