UTICA – Bernard J. Cambridge, 90, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021, at the Masonic Care Community. Bernard was born on June 12, 1931, in Frankfort, NY, the son of the late Bernard J. and Alice (Pickett) Cambridge. He began his education at St. Frances de Sales and was a graduate of Frankfort High School. Bernard proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 – 1955. While in the Air Force he graduated from Parks College in St. Louis, Missouri as an Airplane Mechanic. Bernard later attended the Electronic Technician program at Utica College. On April 27, 1957, he was united in marriage to Wanda Zakrzewski in Holy Trinity Church. From 1957 – 1967 he worked at Rome Air Force Base as an Aircraft Engine Technician. Bernard later landed a position at General Electric as an Instrument Technician in Quality Assurance. After 35 devoted years with them, he retired, on August 2, 2002. Bernard was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church where he also served as an usher. He was also a very proud Irishman. Bernard is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda, Utica; his children, Barbara (Dennis) Baron, Ilion, Michael (Susan) Cambridge, New Hartford and Jim (Jim Conenello) Cambridge, Fort Salonga; grandchildren, Michael (Mariel) Baron, Gary Baron, Lisa (Jarrett) Ray, Erin (Steven) MacDonald and Michael Cambridge; great-grandchildren, Violet and Lily Baron, Liam and Luke MacDonald; siblings, Teresa Lever and Paul (Betty) Cambridge; sisters-in-law, Antoinette (Frank) Golembiowski, Theresa Zakrzewski and Teresa Duggan; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Theodore and Bridget Zakrzewski, brothers-in-law, Raymond Zakrzewski, Robert Lever, Joseph Duggan and sister-in-law, Ida (Ken) Thomas. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church. Family will receive guests following Mass. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Bernard’s name may be made to Holy Trinity Memorial Fund, 1206 Lincoln Ave., Utica, NY 13502 or Masonic Care Community, 2150 Bleecker St., Utica, NY 13501. A special thanks to Dr. Kevin McCormick and the nurses and staff at the Masonic Care Community for the care and compassion they provided to Bernard. Envelopes will be available at the Mass. Arrangements are under the direction of Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 470 French Rd, Utica.
