Barbara Mahar Jacksina Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Barbara J. Mahar Jacksina, 93, formerly of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Cape Heritage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Sandwich, MA. Born on October 28, 1928, in Utica, Barbara was the daughter of M. Eugene and Gertrude (Cavanaugh) Scranton. She was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and continued her education at Memorial Hospital where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She later attended Community General Hospital in Syracuse earning her certification as a Nurse Practitioner. On July 31, 1977, Barbara married J. Robert Jacksina at the Hamilton College Chapel. They enjoyed a blessed union of 32 years prior to his death on February 10, 2010. During her career, she was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital as Head Nurse in Labor and Delivery. Her career continued at Nusbaum, Baum & Galloway and eventually, Barbara retired from Albany Medical Center. Surviving are her children, Kathleen and Roger Thompson, Clinton, Kevin Mahar and Rita Grimaldi, Liverpool, NY, Mary Lou and Donald Meagher, San Diego, CA, Colleen and Timothy Potter, Cotuit, MA, and grandchildren, Janelle and Michael Gambino, Caitlin Thompson Schaffer and Seth Schaffer, Ryan and Erin Potter, Shannon Mahar and Kyle Giczkowski, Michael Thompson, Jason Meagher, Mel Meagher, and Sean Potter and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves her lifelong friend, Jean O’Neil. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday, August 15, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 16th at 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Campus, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. The family requests face coverings be worn. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff and friends at Thirwood Place, South Yarmouth, MA, and to the loving caregivers that were with her the last three months of her life.
